We formed Unknown Brand to forge a new independent production company, but we didn’t want to just join the ocean of similar companies. How to forge our own path, break through the noise, be different. Be visionary…

We feel that working with partners in another country – an ideal production location which is largely overlooked in the same way as once were New Zealand, Ireland, Croatia, Malta – we can make successful, high quality, profitable, low-budget independent films, working with and alongside local talent.

And with our friends and connections in Sri Lanka, we found the ideal location for our maiden production. There is a proud history of filmmaking in Sri Lanka, but a lack of exposure for many reasons has led to local producers despairing of their industry. We have proven, tested ability to make quality productions on low budgets, we have the vision and passion to do it on our own terms. So, why Sri Lanka..?

Sri Lanka is blessed with a fabulous climate for filmmaking, and has a breadth of locations, from historic and natural to contemporary and urban, beach and rainforest to mountain and aquatic – whether riverine or oceanic.

Even more importantly, there is an exciting pool of acting and filmmaking talent in Sri Lanka, as even a cursory investigation shows, but there is currently a lack of opportunity which is stifling its growth.

We will provide opportunity, a stepping stone for individuals to work and develop, helping to foster opportunity and exposure to a wider audience, and ultimately to promote an entire region or country to be seen not just as a viable, but as a desirable and practical location for multiple local and international productions each year. As part of our ongoing remit, we will then be an ideal production partner for other producers who see the potential to take their productions to this fantastic country.

As we embark on our first film, Christmas in Colombo, we will create compelling behind the scenes footage so that people can follow our exciting story. Unknown Brand are doing things differently, and we’d love you to join us on our journey.
